Project Description

Tiki Wines

Tiki Wines & Vineyards is a new and exciting New Zealand vineyard producing a range of award-winning wines. TIKI is family-owned by Royce and Sue McKean. The TIKI brand pays homage to Royce’s great-great grandfather, Tiki Tere Mihi, who was a Ngati Uenuku chief. The esteemed Tiki is also a powerful good luck charm for the Maori people of New Zealand. TIKI is committed to sustainable winegrowing and to working with the environment without compromising quality. They care for their vines under the guiding Maori principles of Kaitiakitanga: guardianship, protection and preservation of the earth. Tiki Wine also has two other labels, Maui and Alpine Valley.

Reviews

Sam Kim, February 2012 (Yahoo Wine Column)
“Tiki is a new name in wine but people involved are accomplished and highly regarded, including the winemaker, Evan Ward, who started his winemaking career in 1974 with McWilliams. Evan brings invaluable experience together with an innovative mind and enthusiasm. And it shows in the wines. They are beautifully expressed, attractive and most drinkable.”

Raymond Chan, February 2012
“With the first releases being the 2009s, Tiki Wine & Vineyards is very much a new entrant. However, the philosophy of owners Royce and Sue McKean is one of the best quality.”
