Poutama pānui – Hepetema – September 20242024-09-03T09:45:30+12:00

Tēnā koutou katoa,

Nau mai, haere mai ki te Pānui o Poutama – Welcome to the Poutama newsletter.

Firstly, we acknowledge the passing of Kīngi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII.  Our condolences go to his whānau.  We also extend our sympathies to Te Kīngitanga, Waikato iwi and te iwi Māori.

We recognise the legacy of the values and principles that Kīngi Tūheitia championed, primarily Mana Māori Motuhake, as well as Kotahitanga/unity amongst Māori.  There is a great E-Tangata commentary here on how each of us can continue to advocate for and live by these principles.

He kura kua ngaro ki tua o Rangi-whakamoe-ariki. Moe mai rā – A chief who has passed to the great beyond. Rest in love.

With the beginning of September comes a change from Winter to Spring.  So there is much to look forward to this month.  Today (3 September), marks the beginning of Mahuru Māori and the Mahuru Māori Challenge 2024.  While Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2024, kicks off from 14 September.

The theme for Te Wiki 2024 is ‘Ake ake ake – A Forever Language’.  It represents the resilience, adaptability and endurance of our language.  It also reflects the commitment New Zealanders have to embracing and learning te reo Māori long into the future.

In this pānui you can read more about:

  • Mewett Media – a content creation business working in High Performance Sport
  • Tapuwae Roa – funding rounds are open
  • Climate change toolkit
  • NZ Cyber Smart Week

As always we value and welcome your feedback and hope you enjoy the pānui!

Mauri ora ki a tātou katoa.
