Brenda Nom – Ngāi Tahu

One adviser for all the big and important financial things

Mortgages – Risk Insurance – KiwiSaver

Brenda Nom has been in business for 12 years providing financial advice to clients with Mortgages, Risk Insurance (life, income, health etc) and KiwiSaver.  She is based in Invercargill and lives in Greenhills near Bluff.

Brenda is very passionate about helping people and ensuring they get good, honest advice and always puts their interests first.

Their services include mortgage advice and insurance options for first home buyers, next home buyers and rental property owners.  They also assist with insurance claims and reviews.

Most of their services are of no cost to customers as they receive commission from the banks and insurance companies.

Brenda also helps clients that may want to refinance their lending or restructure their lending.  She assists with working out an affordable insurance plan based on what clients priorities are and their budgets, to ensure they have some peace of mind if the worse case scenario should strike (like loss of income or pre-mature death).

The business is based in Invercargill, being a small town means most of their business is word of mouth.  Brenda says, “I believe when you are passionate and honest and do the best for every client, people seem to naturally refer clients to us.  We get repeat clients using us instead of their bank for future purchases, so most of the time its a long term relationship.”

Recent Poutama funding for marketing will be extremely helpful in raising awareness of what clients need to do in order to get into the best position to buy their own home or to stay in it.

Being Māori is important to Brenda, she has recently helped a client who has come from a family of no one ever owning a home.  They worked with him for about 8 months and got him into his home recently.  Brenda says, “As a Māori wahine, I believe I connect with other Māori and different cultures, which is partly due to our down-to-earth nature and understanding of Māori culture.  We make all clients feel comfortable and at ease and guide and support them all the way.”

“It’s a great achievement to own your own home, and I want to help more and more people do just that.  I would like to get more involved in offering talks at the marae or any other Māori organisations, to share the knowledge I have to help people start their home ownership journey.”

Brenda is about to launch her First Home Buyers course so keep any eye out in our future pānui for when this happens.  We’ll provide more details once this is released.
