Andrew Osgood – Ngāi Tahu

Nestled in the heart of Tuahiwi, Andrews of Canterbury Contracting Ltd, also known as Andrews Fencing, has been a cornerstone of the North Canterbury community for a decade.  Proudly founded by Andrew, the business has grown from strength to strength recently celebrating it’s 10th birthday last month.

The company has become synonymous with quality and reliability in the fencing industry.  From security and residential fencing to pool, glass, timber, and farm fencing, as well as decks – they offer a comprehensive range of services to meet all your fencing needs.

Being based in Tuahiwi has been a significant advantage for Andrews Fencing.  Their strategic location allows them to efficiently serve the entire North Canterbury area.  The business has built robust relationships with local suppliers in Kaiapoi, and many of their staff, who are also Ngāi Tahu, hail from this community.

This local connection has fostered strong, lasting relationships with clients, many of whom are repeat customers.  The recent funding from Poutama is set to propel Andrews Fencing to new heights.

“The grant will be used to purchase a new tipper trailer, streamlining the process of removing soil and rubbish from sites,” Andrew says.

“This efficiency boost will help keep costs down, maintain competitive pricing, and ensure fair wages for the team.  Plus, it will make the job easier for the crew, eliminating the need for manual unloading.”

Being Māori is at the core of Andrews Fencing’s operations.  With 80% of their workforce being Māori, the business is guided by values that emphasise a balance between people, profit, and the planet.

They are committed to using environmentally friendly products, such as the recycled Save Board fencing used as hoardings around the Rydges Hotel in Christchurch.  These hoardings will be recycled and reused on future projects, showcasing their dedication to sustainability.

The business also takes pride in its participation in the Māori cadetship programme, which has seen several team members progress to leadership roles.  Andrews Fencing fosters a collaborative environment where everyone’s input is valued, and continuous improvement is a shared goal.

The team at Andrews Fencing is adaptable and ready to tackle any fencing job.  Their current projects include fencing schools for the Ministry of Education, Kāinga Ora sites, installing bird protection for advertising screens outside Riccarton Mall, and various residential projects.

“We have recently expanded our capabilities with the purchase of a tractor and post driver, enabling us to fence deer netting along the new road in Halswell.  This year, we plan to further grow our farm fencing services,” says Andrew.
