Envico Technologies Ltd is an award-winning environmental technologies company based in Mount Maunganui.  Founded in 2018 by Samuel Vye and Cameron Baker, who are pioneers in the research and development of specialist drones and automated systems for conservation and biosecurity.

By merging engineering, science, and drone regulatory disciplines, Envico develops fit-for-purpose solutions covering invasive species detection and control, deforestation and environmental monitoring.

After some world firsts with drone technology and becoming well known for “big drones” both domestically and internationally, Samuel and Cameron recently started Syos Aerospace – to commercialise Envico’s research and development.  The business partners were finding that they could not find suitable drones in the market for their requirements, so they started building their own.

With the support of Poutama Trust, Syos Aerospace showcased their ‘SA-200 unmanned helicopter’ drone to more than 12,000 attendees at the recent International Land Forces 2021 event in Australia.  The SA-200 – a prototype capable of lifting 200kg for 2 hours, was a huge draw card at the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise pavilion – displaying a safer utility option for humanitarian disaster relief, cargo transport, forestry, and agriculture.

The event was the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere and meant Samuel and Cameron could network with potential buyers and partners.  The support from Poutama Trust also meant the company could follow up on demand from the event, providing support for manufacturing equipment that will grow the company locally and provide skilled employment opportunities.

The future for Envico looks promising.  With growing market demand comes new job opportunities too.  Right now, Envico is looking for a full-time Software Engineer to join their growing team.  The role will focus on building machine learning (ML) capability, detecting pest animals by drone.  The work will be impactful and aims to provide tools for predator-free and disease-free goals across Aotearoa.  The right person will need to be competent in the design and development of a range of ML algorithms.  If you or any else knows of someone with these skills, please contact Envico at careers@envicotech.co.nz.
