Kāre Honey from Kawakawa, Taitokerau has been chosen to supply their comb honey to the New Zealand Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Kāre’s Comb Honey will feature on the menu of Taiki Restaurant as an accompaniment to a selection of New Zealand cheeses. Tiaki is the New Zealand Pavilion’s restaurant where visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai can taste the outstanding quality of Aotearoa’s food and beverage offering. Expo 2020 Dubai will now open its doors to the world from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.
The mega-event, delayed due to COVID-19, will run over six months. The Expo is an opportunity to promote Aotearoa to an international audience, while celebrating our values, innovation and creativity under the theme ‘Care for People and Place’.
“A key element in winning selection for supply was in Kāre’s alignment to this kaupapa of Manaakitanga and Kaitiakitanga” says Billy Mulcare (Ngāti Tama), owner of Kāre. “We are delighted to have our comb honey selected for this prestigious event.”

Poutama is proud to have recently supported Kāre Honey with the purchase of plant and equipment that has enabled the business to further develop and grow. It is a whānau owned business based in Te Pēwhairangi (Bay of Islands). It has been in existence some 15 years. The business was founded primarily to create employment for whānau and friends on their whenua. A minimum of 10% of Kare’s profits are donated to charities associated with the health, education and care of tamariki both within the local community and in developing countries.
