John Anderson – Tūhourangi

From Rotorua Roots to Regional Recognition

In the heart of Rotorua, where geothermal wonders meet rich Māori heritage, a local business is making waves in the construction and electrical industry.

Meet John Anderson, the founder of JAM Group, whose journey from solo tradesman to leading a thriving team is as inspiring as it is uniquely Kiwi.

“Tēnā koe, I’m John Anderson,” he begins with a warm smile.  Born and bred in Rotorua, John has spent the last eight years immersed in the construction world, driven by a passion for business and the opportunities it creates—not just for himself, but for his team and community.

What started as John Anderson Maintenance, a humble one-man property maintenance service, has evolved into JAM Group—a medium-sized construction and electrical company known for its quality, connection, and innovation.  The name may have changed, but the values remain the same: craftsmanship, integrity, and a deep respect for culture.

Building More Than Just Homes

JAM Group offers a wraparound service that simplifies the building and renovation process for clients.  From commercial construction and electrical work to residential builds and smart home solutions, the team prides itself on being a one-stop shop for excellence.

“Our goal is to make the process seamless, transparent, and efficient,” says John.  “We want our clients to feel confident and cared for every step of the way.”

Rotorua Roots Run Deep

John credits much of JAM Group’s success to the tight-knit Rotorua community.  “It’s a place where everyone knows everyone,” he says.  “The support from local businesses and loyal customers has been a huge driver of our growth.”

And that growth is about to get a boost.  Thanks to funding from Poutama, JAM Group is investing in professional marketing tools to showcase their projects.  “This will help us attract more high-end work and choose projects that align with our team’s skills and passions,” John explains.

Culture at the Core

Being Māori isn’t just a part of JAM Group’s identity—it’s the foundation.  With Rotorua’s population being 40% Māori, the business is deeply connected to the local culture and history.

“It shapes our values, our vision, and the way we do business,” says John.  “We’re proud to be involved in projects that celebrate Māori culture and give back to our community.”

Collaboration Over Competition

JAM Group isn’t just about building structures—it’s about building relationships.  “We love working alongside like-minded businesses who lift each other up,” John shares.  “Collaboration is key to creating something truly special.”
