Morgan Darlison – Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou, Tainui
Morgan is an artist/graphic designer based in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Kaitiaki Studios is the platform for her creative ventures, founded by her in 2015. Over the last 10 years, Morgan has been involved in many different types of projects including spatial design, feature artworks and visual art commissions.
“Kaitiaki allows me the flexibility to get involved in many different creative opportunities, and continue to evolve my creative expression”, says Morgan. Most of her projects involved multiple parties and collaboration between other artists, architects, clients and fabricators to tell Māori stories.
The rebuild of Christchurch city has provided many opportunities to rethink the design of their landscape in a creative way in partnership with iwi/hapū.
Morgan says, “I have been able to evolve my practice with each opportunity and have multiple skills in the kete in terms of fabrication and creation of my ideas on a large scale.”
“Poutama recently helped me in the planning phase to expand my offerings to clientele, and support artists and emerging Māori artists in our takiwā to grow”.
Being Māori is the foundation for Kaitiaki Studios and informs Morgan’s identity and her creative expression. She is a proud mana wāhine who aims to empower and inspire others, continually seeks growth and learning, while showcasing her Māori identity in her rohe.
