Some of the latest information and statistics on Pakihi Māori were released by Stats NZ last week.
Tatauranga Umanga Māori – Statistics on Māori Businesses 2020 presents information on two subsets of Māori businesses – Māori authorities and Māori small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) – that contribute to Aotearoa’s economy. The release also includes data on Māori tourism businesses that may be either Māori authorities or Māori SMEs.
A couple of insights noted that:
- The value of total exports by Māori authorities continued to rise in 2020 despite the impact of COVID-19, and
- One-half of Māori SMEs were classified as essential services. Māori businesses classified as essential were mainly in agriculture, manufacturing, and health services.
