Ngareka Bensemann, Ngāi Tahu

Based in One Tree Point, Whangārei, Marsden Cove Dental (MCD) have a beautiful and modern clinic servicing the wider Bream Bay community (south-east of Whangārei).  Establishing a clinic in this area has meant local residents no longer need to travel into Whangārei for their dental needs, and MCD have set their pricing to be lower than or equal to the average price of dental work within Northland.

MCD offer all dental services – from consults, to hygiene services, general dentistry, extractions, crowns, dentures and teeth whitening.  They also offer free dental services to high school students from Year 9 under the Government’s dental funded system.

Owner and principal dentist, Ngareka Bensemann’s journey to becoming a dentist was sparked by an accident she had as a child, where she was hit in the face with a surfboard and chipped her front tooth.  Ngareka believes that quality dentistry should be available to any and all, regardless of your background.  Ngareka has created a friendly, family focused practice where clients leave feeling confident and have had their dental needs met.

MCD received PGF funding in March 2021 to support the purchase of a mobile dental clinic to deliver oral health services to adolescents in Northland high schools.  MCD are committed to helping improve the oral health care of adolescents; at the same time this frees up the DHB’s limited resources to address other health care needs of the community.  Two jobs (a dental therapist and another dentist) were created due to this investment in the mobile service.
