Eke panuku, eke Tangaroa!  Tapuwae Roa annual Tukuoha funding rounds are now open for 2024!

Each year they fund talented and innovative Māori to deliver kaupapa that pursue excellence in education, science and leadership sectors.

This year features the return of two of their cornerstone funds, the Tonganui Scholarship and the Pou Herenga Tangata Award.

Tonganui Scholarship

The Tonganui Scholarship offers three $10,000 grants to accelerate talented, Māori professionals advancing tikanga Māori, mātauranga tuku iho and Te Ao Māori within the oceans sector.  Find out more about the Tonganui Scholarship.

Pou Herenga Tangata Award

The Pou Herenga Tangata Award offers five $5,000 grants to support rangatahi Māori to grow into the next generation of leaders.  Available as individual applications or organisation applications, this fund supports rangatahi who aspire to serve as leaders in their community.  Find out more about the Pou Herenga Tangata Award.

Kayleb Himiona

Utilising the Tonganui Scholarship, Kayleb has undertaken continuous monitoring within the Whangape Harbour, measuring spat (mussel seed).  He now aims to discern the optimal duration for spat rope deployment, aiming to maximise the yield of harvestable spat.

Tōnui Collab

Utilising the Pou Herenga Tangata Award, Tōnui Collab established a RAD – Recycle A Device kaupapa that addresses digital inequity, reduces electronics waste, and empowers rangatahi through refurbishing laptops to koha to their local community.
