Te Kawa a Māui / School of Māori Studies at Te Herenga Waka / Victoria University of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, are helping investigate new pest management tools for the control of varroa mite. They’re conducting a new survey for Māori beekeepers (past and present) and hope to reach as many Māori beekeepers as possible.
Currently there is no data collected on Māori beekeepers, so it is hard to know the scale and involvement with industry. Additionally, as you may know, beekeepers face challenging pests like varroa mite, which they’re eager to understand perspectives and needs on.
We encourage survey responses from any beekeeping level, hobbyist to commercial, both past and present to complete the survey. It should only take 15min to complete, and each respondent can go into the draw to win one of five $200 supermarket vouchers. The survey link can be accessed here.
