Hoani Matenga – Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, Rangitane

Hoani was born in Ōtautahi and now living in Tauranga.  He has been operating Hiwa Systems for 2 years, creating cutting edge GPS technology with the worlds first geo-location capable safety headset.

They provide a solution to enhancing worker safety and productivity via tracking and geofencing.  It can aid in efficient emergency mustering which they see is vital, especially with the rise in extreme weather events due to global climate change.

Their Version 2 has a function alerting workers in close proximity to danger zones and heavy moving machinery, both features which could save lives.  The headset can also record exact injury data, including time, location, and witnesses.  This precise information aids Insurers and ACC with claim accuracy.

Funding received from Poutama will help with the construction and development of their Headsets and get them deployed on worksites.

Hoani says “whānau and manaakitanga is at the core of our business.  Our technology can help safes lives and prevent injuries for hardworking men and women in our communities”.

“The data from these headsets doesn’t just respond to the present; it shapes the future.  From deriving all this accurate data we can unlock the power of Artificial Intelligence.  Using predictive analysis, will proactively identify patterns to help prevent accidents before they happen”.

Their goal at Hiwa Systems is to design and create new versions and types of wearable GPS tracking devices which are easily adopted by the global working world employer market, and partner with a global manufacturer to help us take their product to market.
