Indiyah Giles – Ngāti Torehina, Te Arawa
Rautaki Bookkeeping was founded in August 2019 by Indiyah and her husband Jeremy Giles. They thrive from the challenge of operating three growing small businesses from their home in Mangawhai, Northland.
They are extremely grateful to continue operating after 4-years of global economic challenges including the Covid-19 pandemic and the current recession.
Rautaki Bookkeeping specialises in providing bookkeeping, payroll and tax return services for small businesses across NZ. Their clients are serviced country-wide through virtual channels directly from their HQ (home-office).
They do this by simplifying & digitising their clients’ company financial processes while ensuring their financial records are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with regulatory standards.
With the business being virtual, it provides them with the capability to offer accessible, cost-effective and timely services to their clients throughout the country.
Their next step towards business growth is to rebuild their team within NZ. They have shifted from a team of several accountants based-offshore, in the last 12-months, back to one member (only Indy). This will help to better manage service quality and reconfigure cost-effective processes across the company, in response to the current economic environment.
They are moving from an operational outsource business model to a specialised remote-team based within NZ with the support of highly-automated systems & processes.
Recent investment from Poutama, provided them with access to a reputable NZ bookkeeping business coach and her experience, resources, support, network and guidance to re-establish the right foundation to achieve this effectively.
When asked if being Māori was important to what they do as a business, Indiyah says “I believe my business, Rautaki Bookkeeping, was granted to me as a taonga from my tūpuna ariki. They granted me with the ingoa, mātauranga, rautaki, mana and mauri to fulfil my duty as kaitiaki of this business, for this period of time, before my future successors.”
“Being Māori, and indigenous to this land, is critical to our business existence and allows me direct access to connect & communicate with my tūpuna, for the support I need to steer the business through uncharted waters at any given time.”
