The Heavy Metal Company is owned and operated by husband and wife team Brett Rangitaawa and Jennie Waterson. Heavy Metal is a traditional, handcrafted sand and lost wax metal casting foundry servicing New Zealand’s design, transport, defence, marine, art and architectural industries.
Heavy Metal is an award-winning metal workshop, foundry, studio and gallery located in Wellington, New Zealand. They specialise in all aspects of metal design, manufacture, maintenance and conservation.
Company director Brett Rangitaawa is one of New Zealand’s most experienced foundry technicians and is a burgeoning bronze sculptor and artist. Brett leads Heavy Metal’s manufacturing and educational services. Co-director Jennie Waterson has designed and manufactured thousands of products for the New Zealand and Australian design industries under the brand name Metalogy. Jennie also manages the company’s administration.
They work closely with creatives from all design principals to undertake projects of all sizes. From fine jewellery through to 8 metre high bronze sculptures, they have extensive experience engineering and manufacturing all types of products.
They also provide a full metal conservation service for the ongoing protection of new and existing metal works. They have extensive experience restoring, repairing, preserving and maintaining all types of metalwork.
Heavy Metal has recently incorporated a large gallery & studio space onsite to showcase their large and growing range of metal couture – a beautifully curated range of bronze art and metal product designs. They also stock Maori art, vintage, retro and industrial collectables, architectural salvage and jewellery.
