Area BDM – Te Tairawhiti (Gisborne, Wairoa, Hawkes Bay) or Te Tai Hauauru (Taranaki, Manawatu, Whanganui)

Are you passionate about Te Ao Māori?  Would you like to add value to Westpac’s relationships with Iwi and Māori?  Westpac have a superb opportunity for an Area Business Development Manager looking to make a significant contribution to their team potentially based in Te Tairawhiti or Te Tai Hauāuru.

This is a role in their commercial team which carries the mandate of developing and growing their customer portfolio through meaningful relationships with Māori and Iwi.  Reporting to the respective Area/Regional Manager of these areas, this strategic role will leverage your ability to understand the complex nature of Iwi and the Māori economy, and being able to provide tailored banking solutions.  All the while you will achieve business plans, sales targets and performance objectives.

Naturally you will have proven experience developing referral sources, be market intelligent and able to point to a successful track record of developing and growing business.  Given the Māori and Iwi focus of the role, confidence in speaking Te Reo is essential combined with an existing appreciation and understanding of Iwi and Māori.

What you will need to succeed

The criticality of this role will require maturity, resilience, integrity and strong influencing abilities, steering stakeholders towards desired outcomes and deadlines.  Confidence and expertise in building and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders is vital.  Westpac require someone who appreciates the strategic connection between understanding, valuing and enabling their customers with achieving business outcomes.

Westpac will also be looking for:

  • An established network of Māori landowners, incorporations and iwi
  • Knowledge and a passion of Te Ao Māori is essential
  • General banking knowledge and industry experience would be advantageous
  • Commercial experience would be advantageous
  • Proficiency in evaluating financial accounts, budget and cash-flow requirements
  • Evidence of utilising industry networks to generate business and build relationships
  • Strong analytical abilities
