Haysley MacDonald – Rangitāne, Ngāi Tahu

One of the New Zealand wine industry’s rising stars, te Pā Family Vineyards of Marlborough, is a long time Poutama customer and collaborator.

Led by owner and proprietor Haysley MacDonald, te Pā has gone from strength to strength since launching its first vintage Sauvignon Blanc in 2011.  It has expanded its flagship te Pā range of wines to include award-winning Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Rosé, and Pinot Noir; with three Sauvignon Blanc wines now included in the line-up, with the classic Sauv, the French oak barrel fermented Oke, and the newly released, late harvest, Sauvignon Blanc Noble.  New ranges have also been added to te Pā’s family of wines, through the fast-growing Pā Road and Koha collections.

Recent accolades include taking out the titles of Star of Marlborough and the Star of Value for New Zealand, at the Harpers Wine Stars competition in the UK; being awarded a fantastic 92 point score in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate; winning the title of ‘Master’ in the Drinks Business Global Pinot Grigio Masters competition.

Poutama works with te Pā through two key projects; the soon to be launched Tuku Māori Winemakers Collective, and Hui, the Māori Food & Beverage Cluster Group.

te Pā has a unique Māori heritage; Haysley’s whakapapa traces back to some of the earliest Māori landings on the Wairau Bar around 800 years ago, and many of Haysley’s iwi and whānau still live on that historic stretch of land in the lower Wairau Valley.  The MacDonald’s are one of the largest Marlborough clans, with Haysley counting over 100 first cousins, here in Aotearoa – New Zealand and around the world.  With five tamariki of his own with partner Julie, Haysley is keeping the MacDonald tradition of big families alive!

To celebrate its recent successes on the international awards circuit, te Pā would like to offer Poutama clients and staff a special promotion for its te Pā range of wines.  You can check out the range here and click through to their website where you can visit the online shop.  Enter the code POUTAMA to receive 15% off your total order.
